What is the Dexcom G6?
The Dexcom G6 is Dexcom’s latest generation continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system. Unlike previous generations, this CGM system is factory-calibrated—so zero fingersticks are required.* The Dexcom G6 is comprised of a sensor, transmitter and display device (receiver and/or compatible smart device)**. The system features a redesigned, one-touch auto-applicator and sleek, discreet transmitter. The Dexcom G6 sends glucose readings to a smart device or the Dexcom receiver every 5 minutes. The Dexcom G6 is approved for patients ages 2 and older.
*If your glucose alerts and readings from the G6 do not match symptoms or expectations, use a blood glucose meter to make diabetes treatment decisions.

What components are required with the G6 system?
A new Dexcom user will receive the Dexcom G6 system including a–transmitter and sensors. An optional touch screen receiver is available as well. If you decide to use a compatible smart device*, you will need to download the Dexcom G6 app.

How long does the Dexcom G6 transmitter last?
A G6 transmitter lasts for three months (same as G5 Mobile).
Is this product approved for Pediatrics?
Yes, Dexcom G6 is indicated for children as young as 2 years old.
Can the sensor be restarted after 10 days?
No. The new Dexcom G6 CGM system is designed to eliminate the need for fingerstick calibrations* and can be used for 10 days without restart.
*If your glucose alerts and readings from the G6 do not match symptoms or expectations, use a blood glucose meter to make diabetes treatment decisions.

How long can I wear the sensor?
The Dexcom G6 sensor is approved to be worn up to 10 days.
What is a sensor code and why do I need one?
When you start a new sensor, you must enter a code into your display device to use the G6 without fingerstick calibrations. Each sensor has its own code printed on the back of the adhesive patch. Do not use a code from a different sensor or make up a code. If you do not enter the correct code, your sensor will not work as well and could be inaccurate. If you have lost the sensor code, you may calibrate the G6 using fingersticks.
Do I have to put the sensor code in every time I start a new sensor?
Yes, you’ll need to put in the sensor code from the sensor each time you start a new one. The sensor code is found on the bottom of the applicator on the adhesive strip.
Where can I insert my G6 sensor?
The approved Dexcom G6 sensor insertion sites are on the belly and back of the upper arm (age 2 years and older) or the upper buttocks (ages 2-17 years).
Does the G6 accept calibrations?
The option to enter calibrations was included to allow a user to manually calibrate the system in case the start-up calibration code is lost. The system is designed to work properly without calibrations.
Do I need to use my receiver?
You have the option to use only the app, only the receiver, or both at the same time.
I lost my sensor code. What do I do?
Without your sensor code, you’ll need to calibrate twice after your 2-hour sensor warmup is complete, a third time 12 hours later, a fourth time 12 hours after that, and then once every 24 hours.
Will Dexcom Clarity work with G6?
Yes, G6 does work with CLARITY. Patients will not need to register again. If you are already sharing with your clinic, the clinic will not need to reconnect.
Is Dexcom creating a recycling program for the sensor applicator?
At this time, Dexcom will not have a recycling program. Dexcom recommends that users dispose of the used applicator following local guidelines for blood containing components.
Does the Follow App work with G6?
Yes, the Follow App works the same way as it did with the Dexcom G5 Mobile.
New followers – Download the Dexcom Follow app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
Existing followers – The Dexcom Follow app is the same so there is no need to download it again if it’s already installed. However, Followers must be re-invited by the Sharer in the G6 app to start following again.
Is there a new app for the G6?
Yes, the Dexcom G6 app will be available for free download in the Google Play and Apple App Stores. The Dexcom G5 Mobile App will not work with a G6 System and vice versa.
What smartphones are compatible with the Follow App?
iOS and Android platforms are compatible for Followers. To view the latest supported devices, visit http://www.dexcom.com/compatibility
What smart devices are compatible with the G6?

Are there any devices that are compatible with G5 that are not compatible with G6?

How do I set up the Dexcom G6 with my phone?
The Dexcom G6 app has to be downloaded and is different from the Dexcom G5 Mobile app. (Please note: The G6 system will not work with the G5 Mobile app.) It is available for free from the Apple App or Google Play stores. The app is named “Dexcom G6”.

What does the signal loss alert mean?
The Signal Loss alert tells you when your receiver or smart device is not communicating. This may occur if you (and the transmitter) are too far from your display device or something Is blocking your transmitter signal, causing you not to get sensor glucose readings.
What does "calibration error" mean?
This screen means you recently entered a calibratlon blood glucose value and the sensor is having trouble calibrating. Follow the directions on the screen to enter a fingerstick reading in 15 minutes to restore readings.
What does the transmitter low battery alert mean?
The transmitter battery Is low and needs to be replaced. When you receive this message, your transmitter may drain as quickly as one week. If you do not already have a transmitter, you need to order a new one.
What does the blood drop icon mean?
This Icon means you need to enter a calibration and will appear when it is time for your 12-hour calibration update, or any other time an additional calibration is needed.
Why is the stop sensor option disabled?
The Stop Sensor option is not available because the sensor has not been started. When you are in a sensor session, Stop Sensor will be available. Once you have stopped a sensor session, you will have the option to start a new sensor session.
What do I do when I get the sensor failed message?
This means that your sensor is no longer working. Remove the failed sensor and replace with a new one.

How can you avoid irritated or sensitive skin caused by the Dexcom sensor adhesive?
If you have irritated or sensitive skin, please consult your healthcare provider (HCP).

For detailed step-by-step instructions on how to use the Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System, please refer to the user guide.
Do you have irritation at the sensor site or sensitive skin? These considerations, skin barriers, and professional tips may help. Remember that what works best for one person may not work best for everyone. You may need to try several different products or methods for you and your HCP to figure out what works best.
General consideration:
- Clean skin with oil-free, antimicrobial soap and dry thoroughly.1,2
- Gentle exfoliation is recommended for oily skin.2
- Trim hair with dry razor if needed.3
- Do not use any lotion or oil containing moisturizer where you insert the sensor. Do not insert sensor immediately after a shower/bath or in a steamy bathroom. Minimize humidity with a hairdryer or apply in a dry environment.2
- Solid or spray antiperspirant (unscented) may help with skin prone to sweating. Create an empty oval on the skin with the antiperspirant and wait 10–15 minutes. Insert the sensor on clean skin in the center of oval.1,2
Barrier Films:
- Barrier films may help prevent mild skin irritation from adhesives.4
- Create an empty oval on the skin with the barrier film and insert sensor on clean skin in the center of oval.
- Let barrier film dry completely before placing sensor.1,4
- May apply one layer or a second after the first layer has dried.

Barrier Patches and Bandages

If your glucose alerts and readings from the G6 do not match symptoms or expectations or you’re taking over the recommended maximum dosage amount of 1000mg of acetaminophen every 6 hours, use a blood glucose meter to make diabetes treatment decisions. Recommended Mobile Phone Settings

iPHONE
Your phone settings can prevent the Dexcom G6 app from working. Learn more about the settings that will allow your app to work as expected.
Screen Time
On iOS 12 and above, Screen Time’s Downtime and App Limits can temporarily disable apps. If you set time limits for the Dexcom G6 app, you may not open the app, get alerts or sensor readings. Either:
– Turn off Downtime and App Limits or
– Add Dexcom G6 app to the Always Allowed app list
How to add G6 to Allowed Apps?
Go to Settings, find Screen Time, choose Always Allowed, find Dexcom G6, and tap the plus icon to add Dexcom G6 to the Allowed Apps list.
Do Not Disturb
Do Not Disturb silences all alerts except for the Urgent Low alarm, Transmitter Failure, Sensor Failure, and App Stopped Alert. If the Dexcom G6 Always Sound feature is on, it will override your phone settings, so you hear glucose alerts set to sound.
How to turn Do Not Disturb off?
Go to Settings, tap on Do Not Disturb, and turn it off.
To turn Always Sound on, open your Dexcom G6 app, tap Settings, choose Alerts, and turn Always Sound on.
Low Power Mode
Low Power Mode may prevent the Dexcom G6 app from running in the background. When Low Power Mode is on, your Dexcom G6 alarm and alerts may be delayed. If you’re using Share, information sent to followers may also be delayed. We do not recommend using Low Power Mode.
How to turn Low Power Mode off?
Go to Settings, tap Battery, and turn Low Power Mode off.
Device Bluetooth
Your Dexcom G6 app uses Bluetooth to connect with your transmitter. You must keep your phone Bluetooth turned on to get alerts and sensor readings.
How to turn Bluetooth on?
Go to Settings, find Bluetooth, and turn it on.
App Bluetooth Permission
On iOS 13 and above, Apple requires you to give the Dexcom G6 app permission to use Bluetooth. You must keep Bluetooth Permission turned on for the Dexcom G6 app to work.
How to turn Bluetooth Permission on?
Go to Settings, tap on Dexcom G6, and turn Bluetooth on.
Notifications Permission
Notifications let you get alarms and alerts on your phone. If notifications for the Dexcom G6 app are off, you won’t get any alarms or alerts. We recommend turning Dexcom G6 app notifications on.
How to turn Notifications on?
Go to Settings, choose Dexcom G6, tap Notifications, turn Allow Notifications on.
Background App Refresh
Background App Refresh allows the Dexcom G6 app to continue running in the background. If Background App Refresh is turned off, your Dexcom G6 alarm and alerts may be delayed. If you’re using Share, information sent to followers may also be delayed. We recommend keeping Background App Refresh turned on.
How to turn Background App Refresh on?
Go to Settings, find Dexcom G6, and turn Background App Refresh on.
The location of each setting may be different based on your iOS version. Please refer to your smart device instructions for detailed information. Not sure which iOS version you’re on? Find your device’s iOS version within the About section of your phone’s Settings.
ANDROID
Your phone settings can prevent the Dexcom G6 app from working. Learn more about the settings that will allow your app to work as expected.
Focus Mode
On Android 9 and above, Focus Mode disables apps when it is on. Using Focus Mode with the Dexcom G6 app will prevent you from seeing all alarm, alerts, and sensor readings. Either:
– Turn off Focus Mode or
– Remove Dexcom G6 app from the Distracting Apps list
How to remove G6 from the Distracting App list?
Go to Settings, find Digital Wellbeing, and confirm Dexcom G6 is not in the Distracting Apps list.
App Pause
On Android 10 and above, Pause temporarily disable apps. Using Pause with the Dexcom G6 app stops all alarm, alerts, and sensor readings. We do not recommend using Pause with the Dexcom G6 app.
How to exit App Pause?
Tap the Dexcom G6 app icon on the desktop or in the app drawer, and tap Unpause app.
Battery Saver Mode
Battery Saver Mode prevents the Dexcom G6 app from using background data. When it is on, your alarm and alerts may be delayed. If you’re using Share, information sent to followers may also be delayed. We do not recommend using Battery Saver Mode and recommend choosing the highest battery performance option on certain phones.
How to turn Battery Saver Mode off?
Go to Settings, and turn Battery Saver Mode off, or choose the highest battery performance on certain phones.
Device Bluetooth
The Dexcom G6 app uses Bluetooth to connect with your transmitter. You must keep your device’s Bluetooth turned on to get alarm, alerts, and sensor readings.
How to turn Bluetooth on?
Go to Settings, find Bluetooth, and turn it on.
Device Location
Location must be turned on to use Bluetooth. If Location is off, you won’t get alarm, alerts, or sensor readings.
How to turn Location on?
Go to Settings, find Location, and turn it on.
App Location Permission
Android requires you to give the Dexcom G6 app location permission all the time to use Bluetooth. If you do not give the Dexcom G6 app location permission all the time you won’t get app alarm, alerts, and sensor readings.
We understand you may be concerned about sharing your location, but Dexcom does not use this permission to track your location.
How to turn Location Permission on?
Android 10 and above: Go to Settings, find Dexcom G6, tap Location Permission, and choose Allow All the Time.
Android 9 and below: Go to Settings, find Dexcom G6, tap Location Permission, and turn it on.
Notifications Permission
Notifications allow you to receive alarm and alerts on your phone. If notifications for the Dexcom G6 app are off, you won’t get alarm or alerts.
How to turn Notifications on?
Go to Settings, choose Dexcom G6, and turn Notifications on.
Battery Optimizing
Battery Optimizing prevents the Dexcom G6 app from using background data. When Battery Optimizing is on, your Dexcom G6 alarm and alerts may be delayed. If you’re using Share, information sent to followers may also be delayed. We do not recommend using Battery Optimizing.
How to turn Battery Optimizing off?
Go to Settings, find Dexcom G6, and turn Battery Optimizing off.
Background Restriction
Background Restriction prevents the Dexcom G6 app from running in the background. When Background Restriction is on, you won’t receive Dexcom G6 app alarm and alerts when the app is in the background. We recommend turning Background Restriction off and allowing Background Data.
How to turn Background Restrictions off?
Go to Settings, find Dexcom G6, and turn Background Restriction off, or turn Allow Background Data on.
Do Not Disturb Permission
You must allow Do Not Disturb Permission for the Dexcom G6 app to work. The Do Not Disturb Permission ensures you always get the Urgent Low alarm and important Dexcom alerts even when you put your phone in the most restrictive Do Not Disturb setting.
How to turn DND Permission on?
Follow in-app instructions, or go to Settings, find DND Permission or DND Access, choose Dexcom G6, tap Allow DND, and tap Allow.
The location of each setting may be different based on your Android OS version. Please refer to your smart device instructions for detailed information. Not sure which Android OS version you’re on? Find your device’s OS version within the About section of your phone’s Settings.

Does Dexcom Clarity have information about my receiver or smart device?
Under the Devices section of Dexcom CLARITY’s Overview page you will find the alert settings and last upload for the device. These settings are for your reference and are separate from Dexcom CLARITY settings.
Can I use both a receiver and smart device with Dexcom Clarity?
It is possible to use both a smart device and a receiver to provide CGM data. The smart device system streams data to the CLARITY server, where that data is made available for reports after three hours. The Dexcom receiver requires connection to a computer to upload the data periodically. If the patient uses a smart device part of the time and a receiver part of the time, then CLARITY needs data from both to provide accurate statistics.
How do I get to Dexcom clarity?
Go to https://clarity.dexcom.eu from an internet browser with internet connection. Review CLARITY’s list of computer and internet requirements if needed.
How does Dexcom Clarity get my data?
If you use a receiver, you log in to CLARITY from a computer, connect your receiver, then follow CLARITY’s Upload Instructions. The data stored on your receiver will appear instantly. Dexcom receivers store about 30 days of CGM readings with 120 Calibrations. It is important to upload Dexcom receiver data to CLARITY at least every 30 days to ensure data is not lost. If you use a smart device, CLARITY receives your data automatically from the Cloud and is displayed in CLARITY about 3 hours later. This means that with a smart device system, the most recent data you view in CLARITY is at least 3 hours old.
How do I know when Dexcom Clarity has been updated?
For every release, a notification banner is posted at the top of the Dexcom CLARITY on the day of the release. Follow the banner’s link to read the release notes. If the Uploader software is updated, the notification banner posts 2 weeks before the release.
How can I customize Dexcom Clarity
In Dexcom CLARITY, use the Settings page to customize data display and sharing. Changes only apply to Dexcom CLARITY and do not change any settings on your Dexcom CGM system. Changes made in Settings by a healthcare professional during a clinic session only apply during the session.
How are ranges defined for time in range?
Time in Range is the percentage of time that glucose levels are in low, target and high ranges. Dexcom CLARITY displays time in range from both daytime and nighttime ranges. Each Dexcom CGM reading is compared against the custom glucose target range and assigned a category of High, In Range, Low, or Urgent Low. Readings are tallied, then percentages for each category are calculated.
How are the daily and hourly statistics calculated?
Daily statistics are calculated values for the individual day of the week over the date range selected. For example, if the date range is for 14 days, all the CGM values collected on the two Mondays would be used in the Monday calculations. Hourly statistics are calculated values for the individual hour of the day over the date range selected. For example, if the date range is for seven days, all CGM values collected for each individual hour for each of the seven days would be used in the calculations.
What is a low utilization day?
When the low utilization filter is applied, days with less than 50% CGM data capture will display.
What is the AGP report?
The Ambulatory Glucose Profile (AGP) is a licensed, standardized glucose report created by the International Diabetes Center (IDC). AGP provides a big picture view of your diabetes management and is only one part of understanding your glucose patterns.
Is Dexcom Clarity compatible with both G4 platinum and G5 mobile platforms?
Yes.
How can I share my data using a Dexcom receiver?
If you upload your receiver to the CLARITY home user account, you can share your home user account data with your health care provider. Your clinic will need to give you a sharing invitation via email or printed invitation to initiate sharing. Alternatively, you can share your data with a healthcare professional by having your clinic upload your Dexcom CGM receiver using the CGM accessory cable directly to Dexcom CLARITY for Healthcare Professionals.
How do I access past data from Dexcom studio?
At this time, there is no mechanism to import the data from Dexcom STUDIO into Dexcom CLARITY. Data stored in Dexcom STUDIO will continue to be viewable within Dexcom STUDIO.
How can I share information with my doctor?
Clinics can easily send email invitations to patients. All you have to do is accept the email invitation by entering the code provided in the invite from your physician or clinic. Then you will be linked to your physician’s office. You can share data automatically via the cloud if you are using your phone and the Dexcom G5 Mobile app, or by connecting your receiver to your computer or the clinic computer.
How far back can I access my data?
All data uploaded into Dexcom CLARITY will remain accessible as long as the product is available for use. Please note that upon logging in to CLARITY for the first time, CLARITY may show limited data depending on when the account was created. Going forward, data will then continue to build as it is uploaded to CLARITY.
Will events entered into my CGM receiver show up in Dexcom Clarity?
Any event that is entered into your CGM will show up on Dexcom CLARITY graphs when your data is updated from your Dexcom G5® Mobile CGM System or you upload your receiver to CLARITY. For example, if “exercise” is entered at 17:00 on 5 June, it will show up on all graphs that include 5 June, after data is updated from the Cloud (about 3 hours after event is entered) or after you upload the receiver for that time period

Where can I obtain a printed version of the Dexcom Clarity?
The CLARITY User Guide can be found and printed from the Clarity Help menu. Your local Dexcom representative can also provide a printed copy.

If I am replacing my smart device, what will I need to do?
If you get a new smart device, you have to install the Follow app on your new device and log In to your Follow account. Instalation instructions are In the user Guide. Once Installed your Sharer’s glucose history and trends will show up on your new device.
If I am replacing my smart device, what will I need to do? Can the Follow App notify me with sound if my smart device is muted, or on vibrate or do not disturb?
No, the Follow app cannot override your smart device settings.
What should I do if the Dexcom Follow app says that notifications are disabled?
If the Dexcom Follow app says notifications are disabled, It means Dexcom Share cannot send you notifications untill you change your smart device settings. See your smart device instructions to learn how to allow notifications from an app like Dexcom Follow.
Why am I not getting notifications?
If you are not getting notifications, one of the following may be the issue:
• Your Urgent Low alarm, Low, and/or High alerts are turned off.

• All notifications on your smart device may have been disabled in your smart device settings.
• You have no internet connection.
• The Dexcom server may be down.
Can my follow notifications make sound if the smart device is muted, or on vibrate or do not disturb?
The Follow app cannot override your smart device settings. If your device is muted, or on Vibrate or Do Not Disturb, you will not receive sound notifications.
What are the computer and software requirements for Dexcom Clarity?
A broadband network connection of 1.5 Mbps or more is required to install the software from the web, upload data or view the online User Guide. It is recommended that you use an appropriate firewall program and an anti-virus program on your computer to protect against viruses, malware and unauthorized access to and use of your computer and the information stored, processed and transmitted by it.
